KIT # 85: Can You Really Become A Super Affiliate?
Issue: #85  #    Date: February 17th, 2003

Publisher's Corner

Hi and welcome to today's issue of Keeping in Touch. A big, warm 'hello' to all our new subscribers.

We live in uncertain times. That is a fact. We all expect to wake up tomorrow morning and take advantage of a new day. In today's fluctuating world, it's even more important to remember who you are, why you do what you do as well as the importance of showing your true self to those around you all the time.

Each day contains only 24 hours and it's up to you whether you choose to make the best of those hours or while them away. Nothing is for certain -- you only have the present. Personally, the thought of another war on a major scale is scary to say the least. So is walking off a curb and being struck by a bus or a vehicle. Illness can strike at any time. Look at the turbulent weather we've experienced this winter. Cold, nasty storms and wicked temperatures. I watched the news last night that showed the trials and tribulations brought about by winter storms that virutally paralized cities like Washington, New York and Boston. A small town of 1,100 in Badger, Newfoundland was flooded on Friday and was completely iced in due to the frigid temperatures.

I believe the reason I chose to talk about this is that I remember how many of my friends and I sat almost paralyzed with disbelief after September 11th, 2001. We watched every live newscast and update for a week or more. Tragic as these events are, there is only so much we can actually 'do' about them. Let's work together to make each day -- each 24 hours count for something good in our own unique way.

Can You Really Become A 'Super Affiliate'?
by Chuck McCullough

What does it really take to get to a position where you are able to consistently take home a large commission check each month?

The first thing you must realize is that the term itself is fairly loosely defined.

You don't automatically become a super affiliate once you take home $X a month, or $X per year.

In fact, each affiliate program really has its own way to define who its super affiliates are.

Mainly, they are the people that stay around the top each month, or have the ability to push a great deal of product with one announcement or ad campaign.

I threw ad campaign in there because in some cases the super affiliate doesn't even have a large mailing list, or any list at all, that they can send an announcement to.

Some very bright individuals have figured out how to create extremely profitable ads, and then simply place them in as many ezines as they can afford.

When you are able to invest $100 for an ad, and then turn that into $200, $300, $500 or more, what's to stop you from doing it over and over again?

At the core of all the hype and confusion surrounding making serious money online, it really comes down to one, or both, of two qualities:

1. Ability to get large quantities of traffic to the programs you are promoting

2. An established, well-known name or brand (you become a 'guru') in your field.

You don't have to be the biggest name in your field to be able to send lot's of traffic to the programs you're promoting (as in the advertising example above) and if you ARE a big name in your field you don't have to get tons of traffic.

Once in this position you typically have a loyal list of followers that will gladly take you up on any and all recommendations you make.

The larger this list the better, but again, if a large enough of percentage of them act on your advice, you can make some serious money without having thousands of subscribers.

How do you accomplish either of these?

Here are some tips:

1. Learn how to create powerful ads, and research the best places to advertise.

2. Practice and study ways of getting top search engine rankings for targeted keywords.

3. Write articles and request that others publish them on their sites and in their newsletters.

4. Start your own newsletter and do your best to provide high-quality, useful content for your readers.

5. Focus on one or two products and specialize in promoting ONLY those products. (You'd be amazed how much more effective you'll be if you follow this simple piece of advice!)

Don't complicate this process any more than it has to be.

Start with this short list and dedicate your efforts to working these concepts and you WILL see improvements in your income this year... and may even become a 'super affiliate' for the programs you push!

A Smile For You

I received this from the guy who built my computer:

At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated, "If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25.00 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon."

In response to Bill's comments, General Motors issued a press release stating: If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics:

1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash twice a day.

2. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car.

3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull over to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could continue. For some reason you would simply accept this.

4. Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine.

5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive -- but would run on only five percent of the roads.

6. The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single "This Car Has Performed An Illegal Operation" warning light.

7. The airbag system would ask "Are you sure?" before deploying.

8. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.

9. Every time a new car was introduced car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.

10. You'd have to press the "Start" button to turn the engine off.

Inspiration

The secret joy of work is contained in one word - excellence. To know how to do something well is to enjoy it.
- Pearl S. Buck

My importance to the world is relatively small. On the other hand, my importance to myself is tremendous. I am all I have to work with, to play with, to suffer and to enjoy. It is not the eyes of others that I am wary of but of my own. I do not intend to let myself down more than I can possibly help, and I find that the fewer illusions I have about myself or the world around me, the better company I am for myself.
- Noel Coward

If you don't set a baseline standard for what you'll accept in life, you'll find it's easy to slip into behaviors and attitudes or a quality of life that's far below what you deserve.

Keep That Focus!

One of the things most critical to home business success is defining one's goals. We are continually reminded to write them on paper, giving ourselves a deadline to meet them, so that we can remain focused on our ultimate dreams.

We need to keep them in front of us at all times in order to maintain the motivation often needed to get us over the rough spots in our businesses.

Wallace Wattles, in his 1910 classic, "The Science of Getting Rich," states:

"You must form a clear and definite mental picture of what you want. You cannot transmit an idea unless you have it yourself....That clear mental picture you must have continually in mind....The more clear and definite you make your picture then, and the more you dwell upon it, bringing out all its delightful details, the stronger your desire will be."

Does this mean that you must spend hours contemplating your ultimate goal? Of course not. It simply means that you need to know just exactly what it is that you want and want it so badly that it will stay in your thoughts.

I've personally taken this advice very much to heart. Regardless of what your goals are, it's possible for you to use this same method to maintain your own focus.

Let me explain.

My ultimate goal is for my husband and I to be able to retire to the area in which I grew up, the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I have a very definite image of what life will be like for us there, and each day I set aside a few minutes to simply close my eyes and dwell on the mental picture of some of the things we'll be able to enjoy -

- walking along the beach at sunset, feeling the warmth of the sand on my bare feet (I can practically smell the salt air when I do this)

- shopping in an unhurried atmosphere in the quaint downtown section of Ocean Springs, Mississippi - only a few minutes' drive from the exciting casino action of the neighboring town of Biloxi

- reconnecting with friends and family and being able to enjoy reunions that I often missed due to living a long distance away

- dining at local restaurants that serve the delicious seafood the area is famous for

I could go on and on, but you get the (mental) picture!

Carrying this one step further, I've gathered together some pictures, postcards, and other memorabilia that reflect the overall atmosphere of the area. These items hang on my wall in my office, right in front of me, so that I can have a constant reminder of exactly what it is that I am working toward.

I'm amazed at the effectiveness of these simple techniques!

You can apply these same methods regardless of what your goals are. Even if what you're working for can't be quite so clearly defined in words and pictures, you can still benefit from these exercises.

During those few minutes each day that you set aside to form your mental "picture," imagine the feelings that you will have when you have reached your own personal goals. Create an affirmation statement, using your computer and some attractive stationery to print it out. Frame this and place it in your own personal work area so that you will have a constant reminder of what exactly it is that you want to accomplish.

Focus, focus, focus....and your dreams WILL come true!

Before you place your ad today, I'd like to fill you in on a couple of things. As you know, my site was moved a couple of months ago and for some reason, not all the files were intact after the transfer. I've also experienced some sort of corruption with my computer which appears to be the result of some updates I made. Unless, I can clear these matters up by month end, I may have to postpone publication of KIT at the end of this month until all these issues are resolved.

If you've tried to contact me and I haven't responded, please try again. I've lost quite a bit of mail.

Please accept my apologies and thank you for your understanding. I'll keep you posted.
